植物资源学专业

院系介绍

植物是人类的生活中必不可少的资源。本系旨在培养通过对植物专业性的研究学习,掌握植物相关科学理论和实用技能, 能在国家和国际社会的植物资源领域奉献并发挥指导作用的中枢型人才。
本系开设植物生理学、植物育种学、植物遗产学、植物病理学、资源植物学、生命工程学、植物分子生物学、分子遗传学、亲环境植物生产科学、海外农产信息学、植物检疫论等科目。除了出产粮食,植物还有很多其他功能,要通过对植物的研究、开发、评价,选出有用的植物,本系培养受到相关基础理论教育,在植物资源各领域都有竞争力的人才

Spring Semester

Rice Production Science and Practice (3 Credits)
This course aims to acquire basic theories and practical technologies of rice production. It provides scientific information on morphology, physiology, ecology of rice and cultural practices including environmental factors in rice production.
Industrial Crops and Practice (3 Credits)
Students aim learn about agronomic characteristics, physiology, ecology, growing, breeding, process and use of fiber crops, oil crops, sugar crops, recreation crops, and their relationship with growing environments, and to acquire skills of growth and process to improve the quality of products.
Plant Ecology (3 Credits)
Ecology is the study of the relationships between plants and their environments. Ecological characteristics of various plants, environments, production of crops and movement of population, relationship between humans and the eco-system, the effect of production of crops on eco-systems and measures of protecting environments are to be learned.
Plant Morphology and Lab (3 Credits)
This lecture is focused on morphological characteristics of crops and botanical functions according to morphological characteristics.
Biochemistry (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about components of living beings, basic biochemical mechanisms, and chemical reactions of substances in living beings.
Principles of Cultivation (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about basic theory, history, scope, traits, classification of cultivation of plants which are the basis of development and commercialization of plants-growing to increase the understanding of and the ability to apply the major.
Applied Microbiology and Lab (3 Credits)
Lectures stress the structure, development, reproduction, etiology, and ecology of fungi with appropriate coverage of their physiology, genetics, and taxonomy. Within the contents of which the microbe study is general students learn about professional knowledge on the application of microbes and of their potential for industrial use. Students also learn about environmental factors for distribution of microorganisms and reaction, function, decomposition of microorganisms, and activity of microorganisms, and they learn skills on agricultural microbiological tests.
Plant Genetics and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about basic theories of genetic phenomenon such as reproduction, chromosomes, sex, variation of plants, and the transmission of genetic information as regards character, plus the mutation, evolutionary mechanism and molecular biological concept of genes.
Biotechnology and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about theories and various experimental methods in plant biotechnology. This course will provide the theoretical bases and genetic engineering techniques for developing transgenic plants.
Weed Science and Practice (3 Credits)
Current strengths of the weed science program include biology, molecular genetics, and physiology of weed species; aquatic and invasive plant research and management; weed management strategies for cropping systems; weed/crop interference mechanisms; computer decision modeling for soybean and peanuts; wetland mitigation; and pasture, rangeland and non-crop weed management systems. Graduate-student placement in both industry and academia has also been a traditional strength due to the diversity of the weed science program. Lectures are focused on physiological and ecological traits of weeds, and principles and practices of weed management systems, including chemical and non-chemical controls. A weed's conflicting relationship with other plants, aspects and degree of its damage, establishment of control methods are also covered. And through the lectures, working mechanism of herbicides, their action in soil and effect on soil and plants and rational method of controlling weeds are also learned.
Mushroom Production Science and Practice (3 Credits)
The aim is to acquire knowledge and skills of propagation of starter cultures, environment of production, management technique, process technique, functional and medicinal substance in mushrooms, and other factors needed for the production of mushrooms.
Forage Crops and Practice (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about physiological and ecological traits of forage crops, and environmental elements and rational growth management for forage crops, and theories for development of new forage crops, and breeding, use, storage of such crops.
Analysis of Natural Product and Lab. (3 Credits)
In this lecture, various methods of chromatography for qualitative and quantitative analysis of structures, active substance and other ingredients of natural products are studied. Instrumental analysis and chemical analysis will be introduced for surveying new substances from natural products.
Agricultural Entomology and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about types, invasion, life cycles, fruit pests (Citrus), fruit pests (Non-citrus), vegetable and field Crop pests and prevention and control of harmful insects of plants so as to acquire skill in effective insect control.
Food Quality Control (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about change of stored food, mechanical and chemical management of stored food, quality inspections of grains for the purpose of acquiring theories of effective management of supply and demand of produced food.
Information Science of Overseas Agriculture (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to study the state of agriculture in foreign countries for the development of the agriculture of Korea.

Fall Semester

Plant Physiology and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about plant cells and their constituent elements, water physiology, nutrient physiology, metabolism, germination physiology, growth physiology, flowering and fruition, and plant hormones, plus to learn about the theoretical basis of crops through theory and practice.
Upland Crops and Practice (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about agronomic origins, ecology, physiology and morphology of barley and soy, and their relationship with growing environments, and to learn skills of growing according to agronomic characteristics and principles of generation.
Plant Pathology and Lab (3 Credits)
Plant pathology is the science of plant diseases, the microorganisms that cause them, and our attempts to manage them. The ultimate goal of plant pathologists is to reduce the losses caused by plant diseases, thereby increasing plant quality and quantity. Plant diseases are caused by the same types of microorganisms that cause diseases in plants and humans and, as such, many of the principles that apply to human and plant medicine apply to plant diseases. The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the many different types of plant pathogens, their basic biology, examples of the types of disease they cause, and the basic principles and concepts of their development, spread and management.
Economic Botany (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to understand physiological and ecological traits of plant resources and to learn about growing plant resources and production and preservation of useful substances.
Soil Science and Fertilizer and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about soil formation and physical traits of soil structure and substances added to soil to improve growth, production, quality and nutritional value of plants, and metabolism of fertilizer in plants, and traits of fertilizers, and application of fertilizers.
Seed Science and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about the importance of seeds in plant resources, and forming process of seeds, chemical composition of grown seeds, conditions affecting life span and vitality of seeds, dormancy physiology and germination physiology of seeds.
Agricultural Chemistry and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about manufacturing method, characteristics, working mechanism, application and pollution of agri-chemicals.
Experimental Statistics and Practice (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about theories and practices of statistical analysis which is needed for various agricultural tests and investigation, and design of tests suitable for the purpose of field tests and indoor tests and others, and the theory of statistical processes and methods of calculation.
Plant Molecular Biology and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about DNA, gene manipulations, industrial uses of gene manipulation, and various skills of experiments in plant molecular biology.
Medicinal Plant and Practice (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about relationships between medicinal plants and growing environments according to physiological and ecological traits of medicinal plants, and methods of cultivation, process, preparation, principal ingredients and use.
Plant Breeding and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn theories of plant breeding, methods and techniques of breeding, breeding manipulation, genetic analysis, statistical analysis, and inter-specific breeding, polyploid breeding, heterosis breeding, mutation breeding, cross-fertilization, mutation caused by radiation and chemicals, resistance to insects and to diseases and to weather, and improvement of breeds.
Environmental Meteorology of Plant (3 Credits)
This lecture is focused on relationships between meteorological elements and plants, and the importance of climate and weather in agricultural production, and the importance of micro-climate in the growth of plants.
Molecular Genetics and Lab (3 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about genetics on the level of DNA and to acquire knowledge and skills for genetic analysis and gene manipulation.
Product Science of Environment Favorable Plant (2 Credits)
The aim is for students to learn about environmental damage caused by excessive use of agri-chemicals, and to realize humans are part of the soil and to learn how to protect soil and eco-systems and how to achieve sustainable management of agricultural environments by learning about environmental factors affecting growth of plants and relationships between agri-chemicals and environments.
Seminar in Plant Resources (2 Credits)
The aim is for students to review the latest topics in the whole field of plant resources to indicate the direction of future research and to follow techniques of presenting the results of research.
Theories of Plant Quarantine (2 Credits)
The aim is for students to acquire professional knowledge of quarantine to prevent the incoming of plant pathogens and harmful insects from overseas and from their outgoing from Korea to foreign countries.
